Summary of Progressive Safe System

Comprehensive guidelines for implementing enhanced vehicle safety measures

01

requirement

CMS Installation

Install a Camera Monitoring System (CMS) on the vehicle's nearside to eliminate blind spots and potentially replace Class V and VI mirrors.

Installers should place cameras based on the blind spot size and to avoid external obstructions. Often, mounting above two meters suits, but vehicle specifics should guide final placement
Additional CMS installation is not required if a vehicle already has one or meets UNECE Regulations 151 and 159. This applies when existing setups provide equivalent safety, including CMS as mirror replacements or within a Blind Spot Information System

02

requirement

Mirror Replacement

Class V and VI mirrors, or a CMS that replaces the mirrors, or a combination of both, must be fitted to the front and nearside of the vehicle

03

requirement

Blind Spot Coverage

A Blind Spot Information System should cover the entire nearside of rigid vehicles to detect vulnerable road users without triggering due to roadside furniture or stationary vehicles, aiming to reduce collisions during left turns

04

requirement

MOIS Installation

An MOIS (Moving Off Information System) should be installed at the front of a vehicle to alert the driver about nearby vulnerable road users and help prevent accidents in the front blind spot when starting to move

05

requirement

Under-run Protection

Side under- run protection must be fitted to both sides of the vehicle, except where this would not be practicable

06

requirement

Audible Warnings

Audible warnings must be fitted to provide an adequate warning to vulnerable road users when a vehicle is turning left, or right for left-hand drive vehicles. This makes sure that all vehicles can warn of an intended manoeuvre

07

requirement

Warning Signage

Vehicles must have external warning signs to alert others of potential hazards clearly. These signs should be easily readable, as specified by our operational guidelines.

We advise using larger signs (minimum A3 size) wherever feasible, though we recognize this may not suit all vehicle types. Operators should use the most practical size for their vehicle, ensuring that the signage remains clear and readable.
